About AARP Membership

AARP membership costs $15 for the first full year when you sign up for automatic renewal. After that it renews at $20 a year. You get a member card, a free second membership for someone in your household, and partner savings on food, gas, shipping, phones and more. Here’s what those savings look like, straight from AARP’s own pages.

How much does AARP membership cost?

  • 1 year: $15 the first year with automatic renewal, then $20 a year.
  • 3 years: $55.
  • 5 years: $79.
  • Lifetime: $250.

Quick math: the 3-year plan costs the same as renewing yearly ($15 + $20 + $20), so it only locks your price. The 5-year plan saves $16 over five years of yearly renewals ($95). Anyone 18 or older can join.

Discounts members can use

AARP lists hundreds of offers. These are some of the specific ones, with the numbers AARP shows. Partners set the terms, so check the details before you rely on one.

  • Denny’s: 15% off the bill, capped at $10, at participating locations. Alcohol and online orders don’t count.
  • Exxon Mobil: link your Rewards+ account to earn extra points on fuel, car washes and store items, and twice the points on fuel on member days. New Rewards+ members get 500 bonus points after a first fill-up. 100 points equals $1.
  • The UPS Store: 5% off UPS shipping and 15% off printing, shredding and packaging materials. Tell the cashier you’re a member.
  • Consumer Cellular: 5% off monthly service fees and 30% off accessories, or two unlimited lines for $55 a month.
  • Walmart+: $40 off the annual plan, which takes it from $98 to $58.
  • Valvoline: 15% off oil changes at the drive-thru.
  • Active & Fit Direct: gym access for $28 a month.

Does AARP have an AT&T discount?

Not anymore, as far as AARP shows. As of September 24, 2026, its wireless benefits page lists Consumer Cellular offers and no AT&T discount. If you’re on AT&T, ask AT&T what senior plans it has now.

Is AARP worth it?

Worth it if you’ll use a couple of these: Denny’s, Exxon fuel, The UPS Store, Walmart+ or Consumer Cellular. A single Walmart+ saving of $40 covers two years of dues.

Skip it if you wouldn’t use any of them. Some stores and restaurants give senior discounts with no membership, so ask first.

How we checked this

Every price and offer here comes from AARP’s own member pages, checked on September 24, 2026, and we link the source for each. Partner offers change and carry their own terms, and AARP points out that its partners, not AARP, provide these commercial benefits. Earninger earns a commission if you join AARP through our button. It doesn’t change your price, and we don’t give cash back or points on AARP.
